The Future of Parenting Publishing

GriscomRufus.jpgAs a new generation of parents raises children in this ongoing recession, they are looking to new sites and new books for guidance. Today’s guest on the Morning Media Menu was Rufus Griscom, co-founder of the parenting site Babble and Nerve.

Griscom discussed the world of parenting media, including: the recessions effect on parenting magazines, parenting taboos, the advertising market, and Babble’s three-year rise in readership. “You learn pretty quickly that there are certain things you can’t say as a parent,” he explained.

He also talked about the publishing promise of the parenting category: “We did a three book deal with Chronicle Books. We have two more Babble-branded books. The next two will be about baby names and the 50 most controversial issues for parents. It’s a great book category. In those first five or six years, from conception until your kid goes to kindergarten, we parents are quite desperate for information and resources.”
