Frances Dinkelspiel writes about all the big book deals coming out of The Grotto, an office space for creative artists in San Francisco, including the recent six-figure deal for Melanie Gideon‘s The Slippery Year. “In the past year,” Dinkelspiel writes, “ten of the Grotto’s approximately 30 writers have sold books. Many were sold for $300,000-$600,000 and one may have even gone for more than $1 million.” Other authors working in the space who’ve sold books in the last year include co-founders Po Bronson and Ethan Watters, along with Laura Fraser, Stephen Elliott, and Allison Hoover Bartlett.
