Textbook Photocopying Debated at Lifehacker

lhlogo.jpgOver at the lifestyle blog Lifehacker, an essay entitled “The Complete Guide to Saving Money on Textbooks” suggested that readers photocopy college textbooks–spawning a debate about the ethics of photocopied books.

Here’s an excerpt: “Photocopying is simple and sometimes serves as the best option. If you invest in a large three-ring binder, you can potentially store all your textbook pages in one place. You’ll want to contact your professors before classes begin to find out what chapters you’ll be covering so you can avoid copying more pages than you need (and wasting paper in the process). This can help you consolidate your reading material into a simple, smaller, and lighter solution.”

What do you think about copying textbooks? Share your thoughts in the comments. One Lifehacker reader disagreed: “I know it’s tempting to see textbook companies as faceless bad guys, but there are a lot of great people working behind the scenes just like anywhere else.”

Another reader argued: “The college bookstores and textbook companies make a lot of money ripping us off and we need to find alternate ways of making up for it.” (Via MarleyMagaziner)
