Talk About Your Market-Driven Products

Avon Books is letting readers shape the product with its “FanLit” promotion, which enables fans to register their opinions on just about every facet of an original romance novella from concept to publication. For example, right now registered participants can vote on whether this story will be set in medieval times, the Regency era, Victorian England, or contemporary America. It might even be a paranormal or suspense tale. Once that’s established, fans can submit chapters which will be evaluated by their peers, with the most popular choice being added to the final draft. Avon editorial director Carrie Feron and her staff have convened a panel of romance authors—Victoria Alexander, Eloisa James, Cathy Maxwell, Teresa Madeiros, and Julia Quinn—to add their thoughts, which will carry a little extra weight in the decision-making process.
