Stomping That Dead Horse, Just to Make Sure

Fans of science fiction, YA novels, and YA science fiction novels all continue to be aghast at Dave Itzkoff‘s critical inadequacies. Thanks to the instantaneousness of these newfangled Interwebs, even Australians are getting in on the act, with one bookblogger from Down Under referring to Sunday’s review as “a neverending parade of stupid.”

Even Neil Gaiman, who ostenibly benefits from Itzkoff’s recognition that some YA literature might possibly verge on the artistic, is shaking his head sadly at the article. “I think that rule number one for book reviewers should probably be Don’t Spend The First Paragraph Slagging Off The Genre,” Gaiman advises. “Just don’t… It just makes people think you’re not a very good reviewer.”
