By Maryann Yin

Shepard Fairey LA Library Card (GalleyCat)Shepard Fairey, the artist behind the Obama “Hope” poster, and Cleon Peterson, a painter, collaborated on creating a new design for the Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) card. The design was unveiled during a ceremony on April 19.

This project marks the first time that the organization brought on an artist to conceive of a design for the LAPL card. This limited-edition item will be available at all 73 library branches.

Here’s more from the press release: “Fairey and Peterson’s library card design is based on an illustration created to promote the Library Foundation of Los Angeles’s Young Literati Annual Toast fundraiser. Fairey and his wife Amanda also have supported the library and foundation in many other ways: Shepard has participated as a celebrity reader and even deejayed at Young Literati events, and Amanda is a member of the foundation board and chair of Young Literati.” (via the Shepard Fairey blog)
