Scene @ Festival of Scottish Writing

Crime novelist Denise Mina chats with Scottish Book Trust promoter Tessa MacGregor (right) while her partner, Steve, talks to novelist Allan Guthrie. The four were at the Housing Works Café for a Festival of Scottish Writing panel discussion that featured Andrew O’Hagan, James Robertson, and Colum McCann. I also got to meet up with Book Trust CEO Marc Lambert, and I think I may have gotten a tentative commitment for a science fiction panel at next year’s festival (on account of I had just started reading the galleys for Ken MacLeod‘s latest, The Execution Channel, and I know Orbit has big, big plans to reintroduce U.S. readers to Iain Banks). Until then, there’s still plenty to see this week—for starters, Mina and Guthrie will be joining Ian Rankin at the Donnell Library Center tonight for a discussion of “Tartan Noir.”
