San Diego Union-Tribune Books Editor Laid Off

pincus.jpgNews broke last week the San Diego Union-Tribune had laid off 35 staffers, including books editor Robert L. Pincus.

Here’s more about the restructuring, from Voice of San Diego: “The changes are being articulated as part of a new, refocused vision for the newspaper. The Union-Tribune is simultaneously hiring, recruiting new leaders and offering entry-level reporting jobs. Some reporters laid off Thursday have the option of taking one of those jobs — dubbed a junior staff writer, which pays about $35,000 annually — or a six months’ salary severance.”

On Twitter, the editor wrote: “One more story running on 6/23, but my review of ‘Heroes’ is last one I wrote before being shown the door at the U-T.” Earlier this month, he had written about the San Diego Book Awards. (Via Ron Charles)
