Reboots of the Kick-Ass and Hit Girl Comic Series to Launch in 2017

Kick-Ass & Hit-Girl (GalleyCat)Mark Millar has been working on a reboot of both the Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl comic series. The character Dave Lizewski will not be the star of the Kick-Ass revival. Instead, an African American woman will be taking on that role.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Millar shared his thoughts on these projects: “Comics is not short of white males aged around 30; that demographic seems pretty well catered for in popular culture. I don’t think many blonde white guys around 30 feel under-represented when they pick up comic or watch a movie. Being older or younger or female or African-American just seems more interesting to me as a writer because this character is quite unique and opens up story possibilities that haven’t been tried in almost eighty years of superhero fiction. This woman has a completely different take on Kick-Ass.”

According to Entertainment Weekly, the first issues of these two series will be released in January 2017. Millar will write the first story arcs. Daniel Way has agreed to take over with the writing afterwards. John Romita Jr., the illustrator behind the original Kick-Ass series, has signed on to produce the illustrations for the new Kick-Ass project. Rafael Albuquerque will design the artwork for the Hit-Girl revival. (via Digital Spy.)
