Random House to Edit Passage in Lena Dunham’s Book

Lena DunhamRandom House will edit a passage in Lena Dunham‘s book, Not That Kind of Girl, in future pressings of the work after being threatened with a lawsuit over a rape story.

In the book, Dunham claims that she was raped in college by a Republican who she called “Barry”. While she didn’t name the assailant completely, a lawyer claims that her description was detailed enough to identify a former student who claims that he has had to defend himself against the allegations. He also happens to be named Barry.

The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop:

Attorney Aaron Minc said he has been in contact with Dunham’s lawyers at Ziffren Brittenham in Los Angeles who assure him that future printings of the book, subtitled “A young woman tells you what she’s ‘learned,’ ” will come with a disclaimer that “Barry” is not the real name of the man who raped Dunham when the two were students at Oberlin College a decade ago.
