Publishers Downplay the Menace of Paper Cuts

We got a press release this afternoon from the Association of American Publishers, with AAP CEO Pat Schroeder commenting on the recent spate of toy recalls by pointing out “the best stimulus for a child’s imagination, the most memorable moments of childhood pleasure, lie between the covers of a book.” (Personally, the childhood pleasures I remember most involve boogieboarding, but never mind that for now.) In addition to Schroeder’s recommendation that parents and grandparents replace those hazardous toys with books, the release also observed that “one of childhood’s greatest delights never has to be recalled.” Which I thought was particularly amusing, in a light ironic sense, to be told on the same day that Beaufort announced it was bringing If I Did It back from publishing purgatory… even though, fine, if you want to get technical about it, that wasn’t a kid’s book.

Actually, now that the idea’s out there, can anybody think of a children’s book that has been recalled, for some reason or another? Tell me! UPDATE: Plenty, as it turns out. Deets tomorrow…
