HarperStudios Publisher, Robert Miller reacted strongly to AuthorBuzz.com founder and author, MJ Rose’s Op-Ed piece in Publishing Perspectives.

Rose had questioned why many publishers have not increased the standard royalty rate for authors, while simultaneously expecting authors to increase active participation in their book’s marketing campaign “with both time and… money,” she says.

Miller, in turn, responded by asking, “Shouldn’t author and publisher alike be doing everything possible to make a book succeed, without needing to count up who has gone beyond the call of duty…?”

Miller, instead, suggests publishers and authors become equal partners, sharing the profits in a 50/50 split.

Should this be the norm for publishers, the brand new and standard business model?
