Author Philip Pullman has resigned his role as patron at the Oxford Literary Festival because the festival doesn’t pay authors.
Pullman tweeted the news this week:
Because of the Oxford Literary Festival’s attitude to paying speakers (they don’t) I can’t remain as a Patron any longer. I’ve resigned.

The event which takes place in the U.K. in April will feature authors Richard Dawkins, Jacqueline Wilson and Levison Wood.
