Penguin Young Readers will publish a 40th anniversary edition of Mildred D. Taylor’s Newbery Medal-winning novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. Kadir Nelson, a Caldecott Award-winning artist, has been brought on to create new cover art for this project.
The new edition will come out as a hardcover in January 2016. According to the press release “the 10 book deal includes covers for Ms. Taylor’s entire backlist and a future hardcover due from Viking in 2017.”
Eileen Kreit, the publisher of Puffin, negotiated the deal with Steven Malk, a literary agent at Writers House. The story stars “Cassie Logan, an independent girl who discovers over the course of an important year why having land of their own is so crucial to the Logan family, even as she learns to draw strength from her own sense of dignity and self-respect.”
