“Nerd Girls” Sought for Reality Television Pilot

By Jason Boog

Jezebel pointed us to a casting call for “Nerd Girls.” The producers are looking for “Smart, Sexy and Tech Savvy” women. Unfortunately, the post doesn’t mention books or reading at all. Have books been excised from nerd culture?

Here’s more from the post: “Inspired by the Tufts University curriculum and the web site Nerdgirls.com, both created by Dr. Karen Panetta, an Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Tufts, the series concept follows Panetta’s original premise behind the program, and web site, of working toward dismantling two common ‘myths.’ First, boys are better at math and science than girls; and second, that a female engineer is socially inept with no sense of style.”

The video embedded above shows Panetta’s crew in action. The show was inspired by a Newsweek trend piece that mentioned both comic books and Danica McKellar’s popular Math Doesn’t Suck series.
