By Maryann Yin

Terry Pratchett BookNeil Gaiman has written the foreword for Terry Pratchett’s forthcoming collection, A Slip of the Keyboard: Collected NonfictionThe Guardian published a section of Gaiman’s piece where he talks about Pratchett’s “angry” side. Here’s an excerpt:

“There is a fury to Terry Pratchett’s writing: it’s the fury that was the engine that powered Discworld. It’s also the anger at the headmaster who would decide that six-year-old Terry Pratchett would never be smart enough for the 11-plus; anger at pompous critics, and at those who think serious is the opposite of funny; anger at his early American publishers who could not bring his books out successfully.”

This excerpt also features Gaiman’s personal feelings of anger towards Pratchett’s dementia. Gaiman posted the link on his Facebook page; thus far it has drawn more than 2,800 “likes.” Doubleday, an imprint of Penguin Random House, will release the American edition of the book on September 23, 2014.
