Nation Books has acquired The New York Kidnapping Club by University of Michigan historian Jonathan Daniel Wells.
The book chronicles “the frighteningly effective network of corrupt judges, lawyers, police officers, and bankers who kept the illegal slave trade alive and well in antebellum New York City, told through the stories of the judge who sanctioned the kidnappers and the black activist who worked tirelessly to bring these outrages to light.”
Katy O’Donnell at Nation Books acquired the world rights to the English language edition from Geri Thoma at Writers House.
