More Writers Too Cute for Words

By Neal

After this this morning’s call for attractive young authors auitable for a fashion shopping magazine spread, we got a note from Rachel Kramer Bussel reminding us that the proposed Lucky article in question sounds an awful lot like last year’s Ana Marie Cox spread. Of course, as the curator of the monthly “In the Flesh” erotic reading series, Rachel knows a thing or two about hot writers…and about being one!

Your suggestions included Nina Planck, who’s publishing a healthy eating guide called Real Food that’s “gonna totally flip the script on what’s good for you,” and Elisa Albert, whose debut short story collection, How This Night Is Different, comes out in July (good job on changing the original title!). Then Claire of mbToolbox fame told me about an interview with Michelle Tea, who just published her first novel, Rose of No Man’s Land. And, finally, I remembered that Ruth Andrew Ellenson will be in town next week for the National Jewish Book Awards, in her role as editor of The Modern Jewish Girl’s Guide to Guilt (to which, by the way, Albert contributed).

None of you have mentioned any cute boys, though, so I guess I’ll have to get that party started myself with Benjamin Kunkel, since Indecision just came out in paperback. Then there’s Ned Vizzini, who’s reading tonight at the Greenwich Village B&N from his contribution to Not Like I’m Jealous or Anything, though he’s also got his own It’s Kind of a Funny Story out. And Daniel Handler’s making a return to adult fiction this spring with Adverbs. He just turned 36 a few months ago, but he’s still pretty dreamy, so we’ll keep him on the list; if Lucky doesn’t want him, we still do!
