mediabistro.com’s Mini-Summit @ Comic-Con

unbeige-galleycat.jpgWho would’ve thought that I’d run into Unbeige blogger Alissa Walker at Comic-Con? Alissa introduced herself after my panel on blogging about the comics industry, and told me about how she’d come down from Los Angeles to visit the folks at toy emporium Super 7, where they were selling Con-exclusives like an orange “meltdown Godzilla” and the 15-inch “Kittyfire.” (I took a look for myself Saturday morning, when I had some free time to wander around the action figure section of the exhibit hall and compile my wish list—very nifty!)

heidi-vlogging.jpgAs for that panel, I thought it went pretty well, thanks to the effective moderation of Heidi MacDonald, who, in addition to filing all sorts of reports for her blog, was also video-blogging for DivX (as seen at right). Along with (from left to right) the bloggers from The Comics Reporter, Newsarama, Comics.212.Net, and Variety’sBags and Boards,” I got to enjoy a lively discussion about what exactly constitutes news in the comics industry and what it’s like to do with highly efficient publicity machines that are doing their best to keep us from running the juicy bits until they’re ready. As Chris Butcher of Comics.212.Net said afterwards, “We all talked a lot anyway and everyone laughed at all of my jokes which is all I really want out of any public speaking engagement.”
