Former first lady Laura Bush and her daughter Jenna Bush Hager are working on a children’s book together for HarperCollins.
Entitled ‘Our Great Big Backyard’ the picture book will tell the story of a little girl who goes on a road trip to several national parks and becomes inspired by nature. The book will feature drawings from illustrator Jacqueline Rogers.
“I’ve hiked with childhood friends in the parks for years,” stated Laura Bush said in a statement issued through HarperCollins. “Jenna accompanied me on a float trip through the Grand Canyon and rode a horse for the first time when she was 3 near the Big Bend National Park. I want all children to go outside, play in nature, and explore America’s magnificent sites with their families.”
The book is slated for publication in May and is timed to drop along with the centennial of the National Park Service. The women are donating a portion of their advance to the National Park Foundation.
