Katha Politt has won the American Book Award for Lifetime Achievement. She will be presented her award on September 19th at a public ceremony in San Fransisco, CA–joining fellow winners Amiri Baraka, Dave Eggers and Pamela Ushuk.
Politt (pictured) is a regular columnist for The Nation, writing “Subject to Debate for the magazine.” She published several collections of essays and two volumes of poetry. Her latest poetry book publication is entitled, The Mind-Body Problem.
The Columbus Foundation started the award in 1978, and 2010 marks its 31st anniversary. The award recognizes people within the American literary community for amazing literary work. Past winners in the last three years for the Lifetime Achievement category include Miguel Algarin, J.J. Phillips, and Kali Vanbaale.
