Award-winning cartoonist Jules Feiffer has inked a deal with W.W. Norton’s Liveright imprint for his first original graphic novel, Kill My Mother.
The book is slated for release in fall 2013. Feiffer (pictured, via) will serve as both writer and artist for this project. Gail Hochman of Brandt & Hochman Literary Agents negotiated the deal with publisher Robert Weil.
Here’s more from Publishers Weekly: “[The] forthcoming graphic novel will be a 4-color black-and-white reproduction inspired by Feiffer’s love of gritty urban noir movies from the 1930s and 1940s. The book will trace the lives of two families over a span of 20 years that starts during World War II. The book features a cast of memorable female characters and a Norton spokesperson said the dialogue—long hailed as a highlight of Feiffer’s writing—is ‘unparalleled’ for its ‘wit and humor.'”
Feiffer drew a Village Voice cartoon strip for more than four decades. In 1986, he won the Pulitzer Prize in the political cartooning category. He has published several collections of his comics.
Feiffer has also established a strong career in children’s books both as a writer and an illustrator. He became well-known for his collaboration with writer Norton Juster and their beloved classic, The Phantom Tollbooth. The two teamed up again and published a picture book in 2010 titled The Odious Ogre.
