EbookNewser reports that literary magazine Joyland is teaming up with Canada’s ECW Press to launch a new eBook imprint in October.

The first two books have already been decided: When They Cried by Jim Hanas and Letters to Thomas Pynchon by Chris Eaton. For the third one, they’re launching a reader contest. According to the site: “The selected author will receive a $500 advance and his or her book will be e-published in Spring 2011. The deadline for submissions is August 1, 2010, and the contest is open to all residents of Canada and the United States.”

Canada’s National Post points out that this puts Joyland in the company of Granta and McSweeney’s, two other literary magazines with publishing arms.
