John Green Responds to the ‘Looking For Alaska’ Challenges

By Maryann Yin

Earlier this month, the American Library Association (ALA) released its annual list of the most frequently challenged library books of 2015. John Green’s debut young adult novel, Looking For Alaska, claimed the number one spot.

Green responded to this situation by posting a piece on the vlogbrothers YouTube channel. In the video embedded above, Green shared his thoughts “on the ban of Looking For Alaska.”

According to the organization’s website, the ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom received 275 reports of challenged books last year. Click here to view an infographic that explores “Banned Books Through History.”
