Two months ago, we steered you to literary agent Jenny Rappaport‘s blog, Lit Soup, for its new series of guest essays on the art of writing. We’ve got more news about Rappaport—after two and a half years at the L. Perkins Agency, she’s setting up her own office at The Rappaport Agency. It’s all very friendly; while Lori Perkins will continue to represent authors of erotica and chick lit, as well as horror and pop culture, Rappaport is zeroing in on science fiction and fantasy, with a little YA and romance thrown in for good measure. “Her tastes are very broad, but be careful for cliches,” warn the submission guidelines on her website. “There’s so much wonderful material out there to explore that every fantasy novel doesn’t need the stereotypical elf, dwarf, and farmboy-turned-world savior, all of whom start their adventure in a bar with tavern wenches.”

Following Rappaport’s departure, Marsha Philitas has been promoted to senior literary agent at L. Perkins.
