Indie Publishing Stars Win Iowa Prizes

By Neal

The University of Iowa Press has announced the winners of its two prizes for short story collections, and this year’s recipients both have ties to the independent publishing world. Don Waters, who won the Iowa Short Fiction Award for his debut collection, Desert Gothic, was the co-founder of Versus Press a few years back, while Lee Montgomery, winner of the John Simmons Short Fiction Award for Whose World Is This?, is the editorial director of Tin House Books and published a critically acclaimed memoir, The Things Between Us, with the Free Press last year. Iowa will publish the two collections this fall.
