A group of high school students from Los Gatos High has self-published a collection of poetry through Smashwords. They got the idea from their teacher Tonya McQuade who learned about self-publishing at her local library.
Windows to the Teenage Soul features contributions from more than 120 freshman English students. The teens made every inch of the book. They divided up into teams to learn different book-making skills. Some students focused on editing, others learned about layout and design, some worked on art and photography, while others worked on marketing and publicity for the eBook. “This project provided many new experiences for me and gave me skills that I can apply later in life,” Freshman Elan Friedland stated.
The class will use proceeds from the book to help pay for future school events including their senior prom.
