Harvard Student’s Poetic Graduation Speech Goes Viral

Donovan Livingston, a graduating student from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, composed a commencement speech with spoken word poetry. The video embedded above has drawn more than 125,000 views on Facebook.

Here’s an excerpt from Livingston’s piece: “To educate requires Galileo-like patience. Today when I look my students in the eyes, all I see are constellations. If you take the time to connect the dots, you can plot the true shape of their genius.”

This year, a great number of writers have given moving commencement speeches. Hamilton: A Revolution co-author Lin-Manuel Miranda spoke at the University of Pennsylvania. Culper Ring series author Brad Meltzer spoke at the University of Michigan Law School. The Fault in Our Stars novelist John Green returned to his alma mater Kenyon College to speak.
