Harry Ransom Center Obtains Books From Gabriel García Márquez’s Library

Gabriel 200The Harry Ransom Center, an institution based at the University of Texas at Austin, has acquired over 180 books from the library of the late Gabriel García Márquez. This collection features books with inscriptions, signatures, and annotations.

In November 2014, the Harry Ransom Center also obtained the Márquez archive. Márquez, a Nobel Prize-winning writer, passed away in April 2014.

Here’s more from the press release: “This selection from the Gabriel García Márquez library reveals expected and unexpected friendships and varied connections between the Nobel laureate and others. The collection includes books inscribed to García Márquez and to his wife, Mercedes, by friends and prominent political and cultural figures such as Isabel Allende, Richard Avedon, Fidel Castro, Bill Clinton, J. M. Coetzee, Carlos Fuentes, Pablo Neruda, Toni Morrison, and Mario Vargas Llosa, among others. Also within the library are a number of García Márquez’s own works with annotations by the author.”
