Harry Potter Lexicon Verdict Could Spark (or Squelch) Larger Spinoff Market

If J.K. Rowling is unable to prevail against the publishers of the Harry Potter Lexicon in the federal lawsuit Andy’s been covering for GalleyCat, you can brace yourself for plenty more Potter-themed books. And one of the first will undoubtedly be Tammy Valdovino‘s The Absolute Best Harry Potter Trivia Challenge, which was auctioned off to St. Martin’s last summer shortly after the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the last book in Rowling’s seven-volume cycle.

Valdovino’s book was supposed to be coming out right about now, but just as everything was ready, approved, and scheduled for publication, the project was killed—for, I’m given to understand, “legal reasons,” no doubt stemming from Rowling’s attempt to suppress the Lexicon. If the right of RDR Books to publish the Lexicon is upheld, I think it’s safe to say that Valdovino’s collection of trivia questions based on the books and movies is likely to find another publisher as well.
