According to the AP, tomorrow’s issue of Rolling Stone includes Hunter S. Thompson’s suicide note. Or, at any rate, the memo Thompson wrote himself for motivation: “…67. That is 17 years past 50. 17 more than I needed or wanted. Boring. I am always bitchy. No Fun–for anybody. 67…” In the accompanying article, Douglas Brinkley suggests the end of the pro football season may have contributed to Thompson’s deadly depression. And with that, now that his ashes have been shot into space and his last words distributed to newsstands everywhere, we’ve probably heard the last of Thompson…until Brinkley publishes a biography.
