Minky is one of three cats who live with Janice Erlbaum, the author of the memoir Girlbomb. “He’s just given the US and UK editions the infamous ‘smell test’ everyone was talking about last winter after James Frey,” Erlbaum explains, “and he thinks it stinks.” Most reviewers have been less harsh, like PW, who called her description of life as a homeless teenager “sharp yet poignant, raw and vivid.” She continues to volunteer at a shelter that took her in when she was young (and helped raise $1000 at a benefit reading last month); her blog is filled with powerful stories about the women she encounters there.
