Four Thousand Novels in a Week

By Jason Boog

NaNoNovember120x238.pngWith 23 days to go, the fearless and crazy National Novel Writing Month writers are off to a strong collective start–producing a total of 334,965,241 words in one week.

Tens of thousands of writers signed up for the 10th anniversary of this writing marathon, attempting to write 50,000-words in a month. If we accept that 75,000-words is an average word-count for a novel, that means these NaNoWriMo scribes have collectively written more than 4,400 novels already. Not too shabby.

Even today’s special guest, first-time novelist Erin McKean, told GalleyCat: “Thank goodness for Nanowrimo, I’ve written 4K more words in the past couple of days!” GalleyCat congratulates all these writers, and we’d love to hear your thoughts about the process. How’s it going? Can we help you with anything? Any advice for the struggling NaNoWriMo scribes?
