Disney to Create a Live-Action Adaptation of The Sword in the Stone

Sword in the Stone Movie (GalleyCat)With the success of live-action movies such as Cinderella and Maleficent, Disney has announced that it will create a new adaptation of The Sword in the Stone. The story follows Merlin the wizard as he mentors a young King Arthur.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 1963 animated movie “is loosely based on the T.H. White’s novel of the same name, which later became part of White’s multi-book Arthurian fantasy The Once and Future King.”

Bryan Cogman, a member of the Game of Thrones writing team, will write the script and Brigham Taylor will serve as a producer.

At this point in time, no release date has been announced. In addition to this project, Disney has been working on developing a number of other live-action book-based films, including The Jungle Book, Tinkerbell and Beauty & The Beast. (via Variety)
