Digital Updates: eMusic, LibreDigital, Thomas Nelson, Wiley

eMusic, the world’s largest retailer of independent music (and the second-largest music service after iTunes), just announced that it has added nine new publishers to its rapidly expanding audio books roster making it the largest MP3 audio book catalogue in the world. According to David Pakman, eMusic President and CEO, “Our customers are buying nearly 13,000 audio books a month.”

In response to Microsoft’s news that it will end the Live Search Books program, LibreDigital announced it will allow any Microsoft Live Search publisher to migrate their online content into their own online repositories. Wiley plans to work with LibreDigital to bring its titles online and OverDrive will use LibreDigital would help it deliver “rentable” books online through OverDrive’s worldwide distribution channel of more than 7,500 libraries, schools and retailers, including the Los Angeles Public Library, Borders, WHSmith, efollett.com, among others.

Meanwhile, the world’s largest Christian publisher, Thomas Nelson, is preparing to enhance its digital capabilities with the help of Ingram Digital. The publisher has signed a multi-year deal with Ingram Digital to host, manage and distribute its content using CoreSource.
