Dan Lazar moves on up

With some recent shuffling at Writers House (including Ginger Clark’s decamping for Curtis Brown earlier this week) Dan Lazar emerged with a promotion, graduating from being Simon Lipskar’s assistant (a position that’s in the process of being replaced) to actual full agent status.

It’s easy to see why, as well as why he’s continually one of the most clicked-on agents over at Publishers Marketplace, based on Lazar’s deal history — he’s quickly established himself as someone who can make big deals happen for commercial fiction and non-fiction. One of his first claims to fame was finding a short story by Stephanie Kallos in a literary magazine and suggesting to his boss that he might want to look at her manscruipt, which led Lipskar to sign her up for the now-critically acclaimed BROKEN FOR YOU. Most recently, got some plum scores for Tish Cohen’s debut novel TOWN HOUSE, which went to Harper’s Alison Callahan at auction after the movie deal was optioned to Ridley Scott and Fox 2000.

He also reps TV critic Alison Klein, Tony ‘n Tina comedienne Judy Sheehan (whose AND BABY MAKES TWO was published by Ballantine earlier this fall), and Brain, Child magazine co-founder Jennifer Niesslein, among others. Suffice to say he’ll be looking for more with the power the promotion gives him.
