Club Promoter Sues Simon & Schuster Over “Douchebag” Book

book.jpgClub promoter Michael Minelli sued Simon & Schuster for libel after he was included in the company’s July book, Hot Chicks with Douchebags.

While damages were unspecified, the case could ultimately set a precedent for the liability of bringing Internet-style snark into printed books. In that book, author Jay Louis described the 27-year-old man in fairly demeaning terms: “popped-collar, spikey-haired presence was so far beyond regular douche, so far beyond uberdouche, he could spontaneously create a new element on the periodic tables–Douche Nine.”

The lawsuit alleges that the book “was fraught with derogatory, offensive, and otherwise defamatory statements” about the club promoter. The Smoking Gun has all the gory details. In addition to this suit, three women from New Jersey also sued for having their pictures included in the collection. (Via.)
