Closing Chapter For an Indie Bookstore Fixture

lucy-skylightbooks.jpgAfter more than a decade of patrolling the shelves and napping in the display window at Skylight Books on the outskirts of Hollywood, famously beloved store mascot Lucy the cat was recently diagnosed with feline lymphoma. “For now, she is on a medication program with the goal of achieving temporary remission of the disease, and to give her a good quality of life for a little longer,” Skylight manager Kerry Slattery informed customers in a recent e-mail newsletter. “Lucy is responding to the medication and seems to be doing really well. She remains here at the store, because this is the place where she seems to feel most comfortable and where she has lived most of her life, with so many people looking after her.” The store will also be hosting a bake sale next Sunday to raise funds for Lucy’s medical expenses, supplementing a donation jar that has already gone up near the cash register.
