Clarifying points about Bulfinch

By Carmen

In Wednesday’s follow-up post about the goings-on at Bulfinch Press, I closed with the following question: “if you’re going to deep-six an imprint, can’t you at least wait to tell people before firing off a press release about it?”

Turns out Pietsch didn’t send out a release after all, as Michael Cader said in an email to correct the record. “Little, Brown didn’t issue a release about Bulfinch. I elicited the information through actual reporting and speaking to Michael Pietsch, following discussions with some of the agents who had books cancelled.” Which puts the subsequent scurrying around and clampdown on further press inquiries in greater perspective.

As for a press release, one is evidently forthcoming from LB with more information about what’s happening, though no timeframe is known for when that will take place. Efforts to reach Pietsch by phone earlier this week for further details didn’t really go anywhere, though his assistant repeated many of the details Publishers Lunch already reported (including news that Executive Editor Michael Sand would be sticking around.)
