Chronicle Donates Books to Teach for America

Chronicle Books has donated hundreds of books and classroom materials to 22 elementary school classrooms in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The donated books include: Philippe Cousteau and Deborah Hopkinson’s Follow the Moon Home and Let’s Play! by Herve Tullet, as well as other take-home activities and materials. The publisher gave the books to Teach For America-Bay Area teachers in honor of National Week of the Young Child. This special week, which is sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, aims to promote childhood programs in preschools and elementary schools across the country.

“Teach For America teachers work in some of the Bay Area’s highest-need classrooms. Early childhood education makes a particularly profound difference for the children from low-income backgrounds our teachers work with,” states Ashley Pletz, the director of Early Childhood Education for Teach For America-Bay Area. “We are so grateful to Chronicle for providing these materials to our teachers. We know that literacy is a key to unleashing the potential of all Bay Area students, and these books are an important tool for our teachers to help them get there.”
