GalleyCat was invited to a private luncheon discussion with Chris Anderson hosted by PAMA earlier today. We were not only treated to an enlightening conversation about the current and coming changes within book publishing but were also given an exclusive opportunity for some one-one-one time with the bestselling author.

Anderson began his talk by citing the demise of the powerhouse music industry and the parallels to what is happening in the book publishing industry. With the introduction of Napster, record sales began slipping and by today, it is almost unheard of for someone to have not tried to illegally downloaded music at least once, especially the younger generation. Now, with the steady influx of digital readers, it seems that traditional publishing houses may be following the same path. Anderson, however, declares that with his philosophy of “Freemium”, houses can learn to adjust and thrive.

In the next series of articles we’ll discuss some of Anderson’s controversial yet enlightening concepts and how the book publishing industry can apply it to help skyrocket their sales. We will also include some of our exclusive one-on-one video with the one and only, Chris Anderson.
