Children’s Book about Alzheimer’s Disease on Kickstarter

By Maryann Yin

Dr. Yemonja Smalls has created a children’s book entitled The Day It Rained. The story follows a youngster named Jamelah and how she comes to learn about Alzheimer’s disease.

Smalls hopes to raise $10,000 on Kickstarter to cover the costs of printing, shipping, marketing, and planning a book launch event. We’ve embedded a video about the project above–what do you think? Here’s more about the project:

“The book offers unique opportunities for open communication with young people about what it means to love someone with Alzheimer’s. While aimed at the elementary school-aged crowd, It is my goal to use the book to touch the hearts of not only the children who read it, but their families and caretakers as well.”
