Celebrate the Legacy of Studs Terkel

terkel.gifThe writing world lost a great pioneer when Studs Terkel passed away over the weekend.

The NY Observer rounds up different writers celebrating how he influenced scores of genres. Follow the links: “Terkel’s work touched on everything from the Great Depression to World War II, American race relations to the lives of working people, jazz music to his own life, which he wrote about in a memoir, Touch and Go.”

In tribute to this print and broadcast pioneer, we should support the innovators who will carry Terkel’s lifework into the 21st Century. At PBS’s MediaLab, you can explore projects created for the Knight News Challenge–a yearly contest that funds countless innovations in storytelling. GalleyCat especially enjoyed Heekya, a platform that would help writers build better interactive stories.
