Can Tiger Woods Re-Write His Biography?

By Jason Boog

tigerwoods23.jpgCan golfer Tiger Woods rewrite his own story at his first public appearance since he confessed to unnamed “transgressions” last year?

To find out more, GalleyCat caught up with People journalist Steve Helling, getting his take on Tiger’s upcoming event. In May 2010, Da Capo Press will publish Helling’s biography of Woods. Read his reply here.

We also asked how Helling will deal with these transgressions. He explained: “The biography will certainly explore the scandal, but that is not the primary focus of the book. I hope to put Tiger’s behavior in the larger context of his life. I will be revealing details about his life that have never been released. This scandal is a small part of the narrative of his life. We’re really looking at the totality of his life story: his upbringing, his parents, high awkward teenage years, his meteoric rise. The reader will gain a deeper understanding of Tiger, which will put the scandal in perspective.”

Helling concluded: “At this point, Tiger needs to talk. His absence has fueled the mystery. He needs to unequivocally own up to his shortcomings, express remorse, and move on. He needs to come back to the golf course in top form. He will never return to his former glory. We all know he’s a human, not a god. He will need to return to dominance on the golf course, and that may be redemption enough.”

What do you think? Is it too late? Or can Tiger re-write the story over the next few years?
