Borders Sues Website Operator Next Jump

While going out of business, Borders has filed a lawsuit against website operator Next Jump.

According to Reuters, Borders originally hired Next Jump to oversee one of its websites; this business relationship allowed the defendant access to Borders’ customer lists. The bookseller alleges that the defendant inappropriately used this data to send emails in an effort to drive customers towards its own site.

Here’s more from the article: “The case comes at a critical moment for Borders, which is trying to sell its trademarks, customer lists and other intellectual property. Infringement could cause those assets to lose value if customers are steered away from the site, the company said in court papers. At least one potential buyer has already told Borders it may lower its valuation of the assets due to Next Jump’s tampering, court papers showed.”
