Ian McEwan is reading tonight at 8 pm at the 92nd Street Y. It’s his only reading in New York this month, and tickets are $27, or $10 for those under 35.

Also tonight, The Rumpus, Tinhouse and Flavorpill present readings by Sam Lipsyte, Colson Whitehead (pictured) and Lorelei Lee; comedy by Michael Showalter, Eugene Mirman and Dave Hill, and music from Jeffrey Lewis and Alina Simone. The show is at the Highline Ballroom, and it starts at 7 pm. Tickets are $12.

On Friday, Gary Shteyngart and Amy Sohn will have a reading, discussion and Shabbat dinner at 92YTribeca. Moderator Joshua Lambert will lead the discussion on “New Perspectives in Jewish Writing,” including themes like humor, social status, love and sex. The talk starts at 6:30 pm and the dinner is at 8:15; tickets can be purchased individually or as a combo.

And on Saturday, the Center for Fiction will host Elizabeth Gilbert, Rick Moody, Kurt Andersen, Sam Lipsyte, Jamaica Kincaid and more for a full day of readings to support an initiative to donate more books to New York City schools. The event begins at 11:30 am, and admission is free with a donation of two or more gently used books.
