Bertelsmann plans competitor to MySpace?

By Carmen

It’s only tangentially related to publishing, since Bertelsmann owns Random House and a whole lot of authors are flocking to MySpace, but I wonder about the news that the German conglomerate might want to develop an entertainment-driven social networking website to compete with MySpace, as PC Advisor reports. On the face of it, this seems like a good move, but they’re rich enough to buy Facebook (evidently valued at over $1 billion and rumored to be bought out by Yahoo) which is already pretty damn successful, so why not do that?

But this story is, as the cliche says, developing..
