Barbara Sue Beaver Remembered in Bay Citizen Article on Suicide

By Jason Boog

Today a Bay Citizen article about rising suicide rates in San Francisco shared the story of a beloved publishing veteran, Barbara Sue Beaver.

Beaver (pictured, via) worked in all corners of the Northern California publishing world, including Book Passage, Faherty Associates, Hearst Books and Chronicle Books. She took her own life in May.

Here’s more from the article: “The 2008 recession hit the book business hard, and Ms. Beaver resigned from her jobs and spent nearly two years unemployed. ‘She was very conscious of being 55 with no health insurance, no pension and being part of a dying industry,’ said her father, Floyd Beaver, 91. ‘She worried that she would become a burden.'”

If you knew Beaver, you can add your tribute to the Friends of Barbara Sue Beaver Facebook page–a beautiful memorial to a true book lover.
