Avon Launches FanLit Writing Contest

By Dianna Dilworth

Avon Books, an imprint of HarperCollins, is launching a collaborative writing contest for aspiring romance writers called Avon FanLit.

Through the online community, writers can contribute to an unfolding story as the story is being written. The publisher has created the 12-week program in conjunction with JukePop, a crowdfunding platform for authors. The first writing prompt and a title vote will go live on May 8, 2015.

Each writing round lasts ten days. Participants can write read and vote for five chapters. The winning chapter will be revealed every two weeks and the narrative will follow the winning chapter’s thread. Throughout the process readers will share feedback and bestselling Avon authors and editors will share tips. The finished manuscript will be published by Avon Impulse as an eBook.

Here is more about the program from the press release:

Avon plans to announce five chapter winners, who will all win 3 signed Avon romances.  The Grand Prize winner will be considered for an Avon Impulse publishing contract as well as receive a reading bonanza: signed copies of all of Avon’s August 2015 novels.
