AvantGuild: Agents for Good News, Written Well

By Neal

macgregor-agency-headshots.jpgIn this week’s installment of mediabistro.com’s “Pitching an Agent” series, M. David Hornbuckle considers the MacGregor Literary Agency, where Chip MacGregor and Sandra Bishop represent about 50 authors, usually with an inspirational (often explicitly Christian) focus—they’re the agents, for example, for the much-talked-about memoir from celebrity mom Lynne Spears. “MacGregor’s first preference is to meet an author,” Hornbuckle cautions. “The majority of people he represents have been introduced to him through his current clients. However, he is open to well-crafted query letters from mature writers.”

If you want to learn more about where MacGregor’s coming from, he’s got a blog, where lately he’s been fielding questions from his readers like “You said that good messages and moral content don’t trump quality… but does quality trump message and moral content?” and “Who would publish spiritually-concerned novelists like Graham Greene and Flannery O’Connor today?” (The answers: Sometimes, and anybody who appreciates great writing.)
